The per-sqm figure that looks so clean on a quote gets buried under delivery terms, spare parts, processors, structural steel, installation labor, and a long list of line items most first-time buyers never see. If you're putting an LED screen in a lobby, a conference room, or a church auditorium, you're paying for certification you might not need. That's not a flaw in the product—it's a suggestion to pick the right tool for the application.
And the most humbling thing I've learned: the industry has changed since 2018. Five years ago, you could roughly estimate a screen by multiplying $/m² by the area and adding 15%. That gets you burned now. Online configuration tools, DCI compliance, rental-market expansion, and custom-shape engineering have made the procurement process more transparent and more complex at the same time. The fundamentals of asking "what's actually in the quote?" haven't changed. They've just become more important.
I'd like to say my checklist prevents every mistake now. It doesn't. But it's cut our procurement cost overruns from 20–25% to under 5% on average. That's an improvement worth $48,000 in tuition. I just wish I'd learned it faster.
