Selection trade-offs

Decisions where neither option is simply better

Most LED display arguments are not about right and wrong but about which constraint matters more on a given site. Unilumin lays the opposing views side by side so buyers can choose with eyes open.

COB versus SMD at fine pitch

For sub-1.5 mm walls, COB packaging is praised for impact resistance, wider viewing angle, and easier cleaning, which favours high-traffic lobbies and studios. The opposing case is cost and field repair: SMD modules are cheaper per square metre and a single dead pixel can be reworked, where COB faults usually mean swapping a whole module. Control rooms on a tight budget often still pick SMD for that reason.

Front service versus rear service

Front-access cabinets let a technician work from the room and suit walls built tight against structure, but they add cabinet depth at the face and can complicate a flush architectural finish. Rear access keeps the front seam clean and is favoured by designers, yet it demands a service corridor that a shallow lobby wall simply may not have. The right answer is decided by available depth, not preference.

Fixed install versus rental cabinets

Rental-grade cabinets win on fast locks, light weight, and repeatable rig-and-strike for touring, but their seam tolerance and long-run reliability rarely match a fixed-install wall meant to run 24/7 for years. Specifying a rental cabinet for a permanent control room saves money on day one and costs more in seam drift and service later. Unilumin flags this rather than letting a price line decide.
