But LED display cost doesn't scale linearly with area. The support structure scales with wind load or seismic requirements. The power and data cabling scales with distance. The processing scales with the number of pixels, not the area. And the labor scales with how awkward the installation site is.
Ask the question differently: "What's the total cost of the system, delivered and operational?" That's the number that matters.

People think bigger screens cost more because they have more LEDs. They do. But the cost jumps geometrically as the pixel pitch drops. Moving from P4 to P2 for the same screen area can double the price, because the pixel density quadruples.
The question to ask isn't "how many square meters?" It's "how far away will the viewer be, and what does the content require?"
What I now check before every quote
After the 2023 mistake, I built a checklist. It's not long, but it's saved us substantially more than $6,400 since.
- Compare the full system, not the LED panels. Include controllers, processors, cabling, structure, installation, commissioning, and training.
- Ask what "installation" covers. Is it engineer supervision? Or does it include the rigging crew, the lift, and the site prep?
- Match the product class to the application. A standard indoor LED wall is not a cinema LED wall. Transparent LED is not a substitute for a standard wall if you're mounting it on a solid surface.
- Verify the pixel pitch against actual viewing distance. If the integrator can't calculate it on the spot, that's a red flag.
- Define the warranty in measurable terms. What's the luminance decay threshold? What does the manufacturer replace, and what's considered wear?
The last one is the one I get pushback on. And honestly? I've lost two bids because I asked for it.
